Hello dears and welcome back to my little mice blog!
Since I’m a girl, I guess it’s a bit inevitable not to be in love with fashion and clothes and accessories. <3
I know I haven’t done any outfits yet but that’s because I’m too shy to ask any of my friends to join me in the cold weather and take pictures of me :))) …but trust me, there are lots of days when I get dressed for work/for going out and think about you guys and how much I would like to share that specific outfit with you… Hope to figure out a solution soon… Until then, we’re gonna talk about clothes without showing you pictures of me wearing them… Hope you won’t mind. 🙂
WARNING: very serious and seriously long post! 🙂
So my first post about fashion, clothes and accessories will be more of a ‘manifesto’ (or maybe that’s too big of a word but I can not find a more suitable one right now)…
Where it all began:
The story starts a few months back, when I decide to finally go online with my mice blog. That was obviously the moment I started spending more and more time on blogs to understand how this works and see what other girls are doing. I discovered lots of Romanian beauty&fashion blogs – I was under the impression that we were kind of scarce in that area – but apparently, there are tons of ‘life-style’ blogs as anyone ca be a blogger and everybody knows fashion, beauty and make-up (don’t get me wrong here, I’m not saying that these blogs are bad or anything… I’ll get into details later on this post)…
So, this was also how I got to discover the Sheinside store. I’ve seen lot’s of blogger-girls wearing clothes bought from this website! I think, in the past few month, most of the outfits I’ve seen, had at least 1 piece of clothing or accessory linked to the Sheinside website. All the pictures the girls posted were looking very nice and smooth and I really liked some of the outfits – so I decided it was time for me to try this store.
Said and done! At the end of January I finally decided on some products, placed my order and waited 2 and a half weeks for the package to arrive. Since everything I’ve seen or read about this website seemed amazing, I was so excited that I would check the tracking website every day to see were my order was…
This Friday, my package finally arrived – and this was my first disappointment!
This is how the package was wrapped:
I was expecting a well wrapped box to keep my items safe! I ordered 4 clothing items and 4 accessories… and I can understand that wrapping foil if I only had clothes as they can’t break into pieces… but my necklaces and earrings were in there too – and some of them had LOTS of ‘stones’…
As I had a very busy day I decided not to open it at the office and wait until I got home, as I wanted time to enjoy and admire every singe item I purchased.
So I got home late at night and the first thing I did was obviously unwrap my order as I usually do when I’m excited about the things I bought: I dropped my shoes on the way to my bed, climbed in the middle of it and started tearing up the package as a kid on Christmas day…
The biggest disappointments:
15 minutes later, my boy walked into the room pretty worried!
He knew I was unwrapping my package and while he was cooking dinner in the kitchen he felt something was wrong as I wasn’t jumping around and forcing him to look and admire my new stuff… There was an awkward silence in the room and that could only mean one thing: fail big time!
Indeed, by the time he walked in the room, I had already tried on all my new clothes and they were all such disappointments that there was no happiness or joy for me to share… I was silently looking in the mirror trying to figure out if I had a problem or these clothes and accessories were just that BAD!
So here are the items I bought and my honest opinion on each and every one of them:
On screen: it looked very nice! The pictures of other girls who have bought this coat were lovely! The ‘pattern’ also seemed very interesting and so did the front opening cut! I had to have it – especially with that amazing discount they had…
In reality: First of all the size doesn’t match. I’m usually an S, or 34-36. This one is supposed to be an S, but it is kind of tight and the sleeves are very short. I can not even move my arms freely – I can’t imagine putting a sweater underneath… The material – VERY LOW QUALITY! It is already covered in lots of ugly fluff balls and I guess more fluff-balls are going to appear once I start wearing it (If I am going to do that…). The finishing details are also horrible – I had to cut a lot of loose threads from all over the bindings. If this were not enough, here comes more: the actual cut of the jacket seems to be off. The seams don’t lay flat and tend to drag the fabric in some weird way… Then, after I tried it on – the only button it had just fell off!!! It was hanging in there on a small and thin piece of thread… 🙁
(excuse the black scratch over the images – it is something stuck inside my camera lens and I did not have the time nor the money to go and fix it)
The fur vest
On screen: again it looks amazing! It looks fluffy enough and soft and cute!
In reality: The fur is not that soft as it looks! The color is more of a dark beige, definitely not white! The lining is made out of a terrible fabric, very synthetic and stiff – definitely not what you would have wanted for your supposed-to-be-soft-fur-vest… Again, the same problem with the cut and binding of the piece: the material seems to be dragging in different areas so the vest doesn’t fall nicely on your body… :((
The Striped Navy-looking dress
On screen: Lovely piece – especially because of that high-boat neck cut and that very cute striped pattern – I was sure I was going to make a striking appearance in it!
In reality: The most synthetic material I have ever seen! Not even stretchy enough to slide into it… The neck-cut seemed wide and nice – but in reality I had to break a few stitches to put my head through the neck-hole. And as the material is so ugly and cheap and synthetic it falls like s***. It has some curves for the waist, but the cutting is completely off – not to mention that on the web-site it looked more like a loose, A-cut dress. BUUU :(((
The cat-print dress/top
On screen: It was the most adorable cat print I had ever seen! I liked the fact that it was a loose top/dress and I loved the details on the front pockets!
In reality: Again, same horrible synthetic fabric – so synthetic it has some sort of plastic shimmer all over… Yak! The cats are as cute as in the pictures, but wait till you see the fabric up close and feel it on your skin… If it were a tighter piece, I swear it would feel like you were wrapped in plastic. Do I need to say any more!?!?!? :((((
On screen: All of them looked amazing! I actually found it very hard to choose only these 4 items as I kind of liked them all…
In reality: As you can see I got myself 3 necklaces and one pair of earrings. They are ok-ish in the sense that if you don’t touch them or check them out up-close, they look nice! But if you dare to come a little closer and try to feel them you will notice that the material they are made of is very very cheap. They have this plastic feeling… they look so heavy and strong while in reality they are very thin, light and fragile… And I also think the ‘gold’ is going to wear out pretty fast – and I really hate when that happens as it not only makes the accessory not wearable anymore, but it also happens when you least expect it (while wearing it) and at the and of the day you discover ugly dark stains on your skin…
In conclusion: No more Sheinside for me! The quality on all the item is VERY VERY LOW! I swear I bought better clothes from thrift stores, second-hands or no-name small shops!
I was thinking of buying a leather jacket from their website too… but now, after I’ve seen these items, I kind of doubt I’ll risk my money again on their products…
About the products I purchased, I’m still figuring out what to do with them… I’m thinking of washing the coat maybe the fibers will ‘align’ better. I’m thinking about washing the vest also and adding some fabric softener and brush it somehow after it is dry. I’m probably gonna give the striped dress away(or simply throw it in the trash) cause no way that’s gonna be wearable… and the cats one, I’m probably gonna wear only when I go out at night and I know for sure I’m not gonna stay late as I don’t want my skin to be trapped in that ‘plastic’ for too long…
End of the Sheinside fail story!
PLEASE READ THIS PART CAREFULLY AS I DO NOT WANT TO BE MISUNDERSTOOD!!! 🙂
Going back to my ‘manifesto’ and what I’ve said about ‘everybody knowing fashion and make-up’…
PLEASE, don’t get me wrong! I’m not saying that these fashion/beauty/life-style blogs are bad… I’m just saying that sometimes, some of us forget about the real world, about the people that read our blogs (our target) and about the purpose of our writings!
I think we should all be completely honest and straight forward to our readers! There’s nothing wrong in buying cheaper or lower quality products if we just get them for the blog pictures – at the end of the day we want to share an inspiring OOTD! But I think we should be fair to our viewers and tell them everything there is to know about that product! Brutally honest – cause otherwise, they wouldn’t need us! They could see for themselves on the website/in the store how lovely that color is, or how trendy the geometric coats are….
Just showing some pretty pictures on the blog with a coat or a dress we bought online might fool them into actually buying these products, thinking they’re making the deal of their life – just like I did (I’m not complaining… I’m the only one to blame for my pricey mistake) :)) But I can not find any reason to knowingly misguide our readers – unless of course we’re paid by the store or brand… But then again, be honest about this! Don’t try to look nice and friendly and sincere if you’re just doing it for the money! Give the people a heads up at least!
And, again, I’m not saying this is true for the blogs I follow! I’m pretty sure this might happen by mistake as we try too hard to fit into a blogging pattern: this is a tutorial, this is an OOTD, this is a make-up look, this is a review and these are this month’s favorites…
Why can’t a make-up tutorial be also a review of a/some product/s?
Or why can’t an OOTD be honest and really say something about that pieces we’re wearing?
Everybody can see what we’re wearing is black, or pink… Everybody can see in the detail picture it is a flowery-lace or a small-dotted pattern… but our readers can’t really touch it… smell the ‘plastic’ in it… know how it looks after we’ve washed it…or how it feels on the skin… if the colors wash of…and other stuff like that!
There’s no shame in trying to be fashionable on a tight budget! That’s what i’m trying to do too! 🙂 I’m just a normal girl, with a normal day-to-day job and a normal life! But, yes, with tons of efforts and research, I’m trying to pull into my life the glamour, glitter and spotlights of the “rich”! 🙂
Whether we like it or not, we might be the inspiration of others! Even though we might personally like/dislike a product there are definitely people following our blogs that have different tastes, skin types, body structures, health issues and so on. Maybe some of our readers are not that pretentious on details or maybe they’re more into details then we are… Or maybe some of them don’t have issues with this plastic-feeling-golden jewelry and their skin doesn’t stain from them… We are all different and this fashion thing is highly subjective! That’s why I think we must be honest and true, write exactly what we feel, like or dislike and let our readers choose for themselves!
My point: let’s not misguide our readers! Let’s be honest with them and with ourselves! In my opinion that’s the only way we’re gonna move forward, grow, develop and reach higher grounds – and I mean this in every sense possible as I think this is valid not only for the blog-business we’re in but for every aspect of our lives!
Don’t you agree? 🙂
This being said, you can now start throwing rocks, or share your honest experiences with different products or brands! Down below in the comments section! 🙂
For those of you who have gotten this far: Thanks for reading and congratulations on hanging in there with me through this never-ending post! 🙂
Big hugs and kisses, from my little mice house to yours! :*
